Descripción
In Catalonia there are as many as 12 Denominations of Origin (wine making appellations) with a winemaking tradition dating back thousands of years. One of the youngest wine making appellations of Spain, D.O Catalunya was created recently, and its vineyards cover, more or less, the whole of Catalonia.
One of the most outstanding DOs, is Cava, Spain’s version of Champagne. Cava, like Champagne is produced using the traditional method, although here they use different grapes. Catalonia holds 90% of the Cava production, with most of the production being done in and around the town of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia.
The second wine region of Spain, to be certified DOC or DOQ in Catalan, after Rioja is Priorat. In this mythical and absolutely stunning region, the wine production is mainly focused on high quality reds, but the whites and roses should not be disregarded.
The other regions are; Emporda, Alella, Pla de Bages, Penedes, Conca de Barbera, Tarragona, Costers del Segre, Montsant and Terra Alta. We bring you tastings from them all!
The host and presenter, Sinisa Curavic, has been living and working in both Barcelona and the more rural parts of Catalonia for more than 10 years, and is now sharing his passion and personal experiences around the wine of Catalonia! During 2014 he wrote a blog called Catalan Wine 365. For 365 days, on a daily basis one article, covering one wine and/or one winery was added to the blog. For inspiration and to help you chose a wine tasting to your liking, you can read the blog following this link, https://catalanwine365.wordpress.com/
This is the perfect virtual wine tasting to get to get to know the wines from Catalonia. It will be private and tailored to your company, group of friends or family. During the tasting we will make you feel as if you were in the region of your choice and the winery/wineries, which wines we taste. You will also be able to ask direct questions to your host!
Welcome to Catalonia/Benvingut a Catalunya!
