In 1994, after dedicating many years of his life to the export of wines, Miguel Merino decided to found his own winery to produce the wines that bear his name.
For his project he chose the town of Briones in La Rioja Alta where he restored an old and abandoned stone house to establish his winery. Briones is an idyllic enclave, with highly differentiated edaphoclimatic zones, which allow the production of wines with highly variable characteristics within the same town. It should be noted that it is one of the few towns that can boast of having got rid of the land consolidation that “affected” many areas of Rioja, which guaranteed the survival of old vineyards in the municipality.
For its wines, they use mainly old vines – all planted between 1918 and 2001 – which are worked following a traditional and sustainable viticulture where manual tillage is implicit.

Its commitment to quality is also reflected in its limited production: only 45,000 bottles per year from its 12 hectares. Thanks to Miguel’s commercial past, his 7 wine brands are enjoyed in 22 countries, with only 6% -7% of its production remaining in Spain and always focused on specialized stores and some of the most prestigious restaurants in the country.

To this day Miguel Merino senior works side by side with his son Miguel and his daughter-in-law Érika, working together to maintain the same philosophy focused on detail and the origin of their wines.
