Erika Dubaele, Miguel’s daughter in law will talk about her family and will guide you through the tasting of each wine, providing details about its terroir, winemaking and aging processes. Get ready to taste this small production wines with all the Rioja heart but with the Merino’s personality:
• Viñas Jóvenes which translates as “Young vines” is a Crianza wine made from the youngest vineyards in this family estate, which are already about 20 years old. It is a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano (6%). It is a fresh, fruity and complex fine wine, very pleasant and easy to drink. This makes VJ an excellent option for any occasion.
•Miguel Merino Reserva is the winery’s flag ship. It comes from excellent vines over 60 years old. Two years of aging in mixed customized barrels (American oak staves to form the body and French oak for the ends/tops) plus a long aging in the bottle of about 4 years make this an elegant and harmonious reserva where nothing out-stands and yet nothing is missing: Ripe fruit & balanced oakyness in the nose and a full bodied complex mouth.
•Miguel Merino Gran Reserva is a wine made only in the best vintages with selected grapes from our oldest vineyards. It is a wine of great elegance, subtle but intense and persistent. The “heart” of this wine comes from vineyards planted in the 1950s and 1960s but in its blend we also add some vineyards from the beginning of the 20th Century. It was aged for 28 months in french oak.
